Story
Every year I give my year a theme. This year probably like many, I named it ‘The Great Outdoors’. I found that last year with COVID it took a big hit on my mental health and I needed motivation to get back up and into life.
So I have taken on the Larapinta Trail Challenge and am raising money for Reach. Reach came into my life at a critical time when I was struggling through my teenage years. On the outside I would have looked like quite a happy young guy, but inside I was battling with thinking my sexuality would not be accepted and often thought it may be better if I didn’t exist. At Reach I was given the tools and space to slowly open up and put language to how I was feeling. I was celebrated for being vulnerable and also given space to talk about my dreams. I eventually ‘came out’. But that was not the biggest gift, it was that I was taught that ultimately I couldn’t change how people see me, but I could change how I see myself and believe in who i am.
I would love if you could help and make a donation, so that other young people can have the space to explore and get the most out of life like I have.
Thanks. Coco x
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.
Thanks so much for your support!
The Reach Foundation
Reach is an independent, for-purpose organisation, established in 1994 by Jim Stynes OAM and Australian film director, Paul Currie.
Reach encourages young people, no matter what their circumstances, to believe they can achieve.
Each year, 50,000 young people experience Reach. Independent research has found Reach’s youth-led workshops can improve the wellbeing of young people by significantly enhancing their feelings of meaning and engagement. www.reach.org.au
