Story
Sam and I often talked about walking the Larapinta Trail, we had even made rough plans with some friends to do so, but we ran out of time.
As I'm currently stumbling my way through the months after Sam's death, I thought why not stumble along the Larapinta Trail?
Just before Sam's diagnosis he was due to present at a global work conference on personal authenticity and the confidence that comes from truly knowing and celebrating oneself. That presentation was rehearsed a lot on the balcony but sadly never delivered.
So in May I'm walking the Larapinta Trail, raising money for a fantastic charity called Reach - run by young people for young people, Reach is all about helping 10-18 year olds connect with their purpose, encouraging young people, no matter what their circumstances, to believe in themselves and that they can achieve. I think Sam would have liked it.
Naturally, I have paid for the cost of the trip. So all funds go to the charity. The official goal is $4k, I was initially aiming for $8k, was thrilled to hit $12k and now am so excited to see how much we can raise beyond that. So please support my efforts by making a secure online donation and by posting a message of support.
Training kicked off this week in Lennox Head where I quickly learned that new hiking boots are required! Roy joining me for the training but not in the Northern Territory!
The Reach Foundation
Reach is an independent, for-purpose organisation, established in 1994 by Jim Stynes OAM and Australian film director, Paul Currie.
Reach encourages young people, no matter what their circumstances, to believe they can achieve.
Each year, 50,000 young people experience Reach. Independent research has found Reach’s youth-led workshops can improve the wellbeing of young people by significantly enhancing their feelings of meaning and engagement. www.reach.org.au
